Different OAU Students You’d See This Christmas

DECEMBER 25, 2024 | 3 MINS READ

Christmas season is here, but it’s definitely not the same for everyone. Whether you’re still on campus or back home trying to blend reading with enjoying the festivities, every OAU student is navigating this season differently. Here are the different types of OAU students you’re bound to encounter this Christmas season.

1. The Ones Who Went Home for Christmas and Are Enjoying Chicken

These are the smart ones who left no room for doubt the moment the semester slowed down, they packed their bags and fled home! Now, their lives revolve around bowls of jollof rice, family gatherings, and the smell of fried chicken.

Their WhatsApp statuses are filled with pictures of steamy plates of food, family reunions, and captions like, "No place like Home". If you’re stuck on campus, these guys might make you jealous with all their festive updates, but hey, they’re living their best lives!

2. The Ones Who Took Their Books Home but Are Too Busy Eating Instead

These students had ambitious plans. They swore to revise lecture notes, tackle past questions, and prep ahead for tests in January, but let’s be honest - they haven’t opened a single page.

Who’s going to read when the aroma of chicken keeps distracting you?

They’re probably on the couch right now, surrounded by snacks and drinks, telling themselves, “I’ll start reading tomorrow,” for the fifth day in a row, but tomorrow never comes. Deep down, they know they’re kidding themselves, but at least they’re trying (kind of).

3. The Ones Reading with One Eye and Eating with the Other

These students are attempting the impossible: balancing academics with Christmas enjoyment. Picture them at the dining table with a plate of rice on one side and a stack of notes on the other.

With a spoon in one hand and a highlighter in the other, they’re determined to make progress in both fields. You can hear them muttering, “If I don’t do it now, when will I?” Their efforts are admirable - though whether they’re productive is another story entirely.

Let’s just hope the chicken grease doesn’t ruin their notes!

4. The Academics First Brigade

These are the die-hard scholars who stayed back on campus purely to focus on academics. No distractions, no noise, just them and their books. They believe Christmas can wait, but deadlines and grades can’t. They’ll remind you of upcoming tests, unfinished assignments, and deadlines.

Their favorite line: “We didn’t come to OAU to celebrate Christmas. We came to face our books.”

You’ll find them in lecture halls or the library, wrapped in blankets, clutching their pens like soldiers in battle. They’re the real MVPs, but honestly, we’re all wondering - don’t they miss the taste of home cooked Jollof rice?

 5. The Hustlers

For these students, Christmas isn’t about relaxation - it’s about opportunity. Whether they’re at home or on campus, they’re busy securing the bag. From selling Christmas hampers to running delivery errands, they’re the entrepreneurs of the season.

Catchphrase: “Money must be made. Christmas or not.” They’ll be the ones with stories of profits instead of gifts when school resumes.

6. The Social Butterflies

Christmas is their time to shine. If they’re home, they’re hopping from one party or hangout to another, making sure they don’t miss out on any Christmas fun. If they’re on campus, they’re organizing mini hangouts and movie nights to keep the christmas spirit alive.

7. The Low-Key Givers

These students remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. They’re quietly spreading love, sharing food, or gifting little tokens to friends and classmates. On campus, they might organize mini contributions to support others. At home, they’re surprising family members with thoughtful gestures.

They might not make noise about it, but their kindness adds warmth to the season.

8. The Movie Marathoners

Whether they’re on campus or at home, these students are celebrating Christmas with back-to-back movies. From holiday rom-coms to action-packed blockbusters, their screens are glowing all day and night.

You’ll hear them quoting lines from Home Alone or The Grinch. If you’re looking for them, don’t bother - they’re busy binge-watching their Christmas away.

Christmas might look different for everyone this year, but whether you’re home eating chicken or stuck on campus with your books, one thing is for sure, OAU students know how to make the most of any situation.
